Ouch . . .

Source: We Heart It

Yep. I went to the dentist on Thursday. Finally.

First, let me say, I have not been to the dentist since I was 12. This wasn't from fear, it was simply because I didn't really have a need. I got my braces off, and by and large my teeth have been fine; no complaints. So, when my mouth started to hurt last week, it was an annoyance I was unused to and didn't need; I don't think I even need to tell you that I didn't have dental coverage on my insurance. It didn't matter, however: I couldn't take it anymore. I had to do something about that damn wisdom tooth.

Off I went to the dentist's office, for a few very painful x-rays, a very brief exam, and a prognosis: you need to get that tooth out. Today.

So, off I went to the oral surgeon just a few hours later. Sitting in the chair around 3pm, half my face numb, listening to Blondie piped into my room, I had a sense of unreality set in. I was about to have oral surgery. How did I get here?!

Several instruments, some scary noises, and a seriously stretched mouth later, it was over. I was sent home with drugs (hello, Vicodin), instructions, and blood-soaked gauze between my teeth. Then, it was a few days of discomfort, lots of sleeping, a few lessons (like: always take your antibiotics exactly as prescribed) . . . and a few surreal days at Faire. Yes, I still did Faire; you would have to remove something bigger than a wisdom tooth to keep me away.

That was my dental adventure; I'm still in some pain, mostly achy soreness that I'm handling with ibuprofen. I'm down one wisdom tooth . . . and, in the area of things-I-don't-want-to-ever-repeat, I do indeed feel a little wiser. I guess my wisdom tooth came through after all.

You were ahead of me in rolls call over at SITS so just stopping by. I like your blog and I can certainly relate to going to the dentist. I recently had a tooth crack and then had to have a root canal. What an experience and I think I had a sadistic dentist too. He seemed wayyyy too happy...LOL.
