Baby, you can drive my car . . . .

I just started driving lessons yesterday. If you live in Chicago, you've been warned.

I know, it's majorly uncool that I'm nearly 30 and still don't have a driver's license, but consider these statistics:

-Only on the train can you experience that "freshly urinated" smell
-Riding buses are retro, retro is in, ergo, riding buses is in
-Think of all the money I've saved in not parking downtown
-All that walking in all kinds of weather is soooo good for me

Yeah, I pretty much dislike riding the bus and train everywhere just as much as the next guy, but I just never got around to getting my license. My mom has a major driving phobia, so I was always hesitant to learn, and worried I'd have a phobia too. But, this year and the next are the Year for Trying Everything, so I kicked myself in the butt and just decided to do it. My first lesson did not involve any wrecks, injuries, or lawsuits, so I guess I'm doing well.

Side note: I passed the written test to get my permit with 100% of the answers correct. All I had to do to acheive this was to read the Rules of the Road booklet. That's it. It was not a hard test. And yet, while I was at the DMV, three people failed, one of whom failed twice in the same day. There was also a semi-serious accident in the parking lot of the DMV by someone about to take the driving test. I'm just going to go out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that person failed too.

You can just tell people you were doing it Euro-style! TONS of people here don't have drivers licenses (me included... but I do have a license in the US so that doesn't completely count haha).

Good luck with your lessons!

Good luck! I'm sure it'll be nerve racking, but oh so worth it in the long run.
