A Regency Saturday . . .

Saturday saw a full day of work; I started and finished my new Regency ballgown. I based it loosely on an original gown ; I loved the color combination, though I couldn't find an appliques that I truly liked for the skirt and decided to keep it simple.

The dress was a royal blue silk charmeuse with a beautiful hand, but I was shocked when I unfolded it; it was very narrow! That'll teach me for buying silk from India! Luckily I had enough yardage to make up for the narrowness of the width.

I paired this with an orange habotai band under the bust, and a golden silk taffeta lining. As you can see here, I decided to go with a turban headdress this year; I'm a little too "mature" to dress like a twenty year old, and the turban is slightly more appropriate;)

The trim is my favorite part (and Viola's as well!). it's a four inch wide orange and gold sari trim, again, from India. Absolutely beautiful.

There are some issues with the dress, but I have limited time right now to fix anything, so it is what it is. It's a little big in the back, the hem is uneven in one place, and the underbust seam seems lumpy to me, but I'll just have to futz with it and see. The whole thing needs to be ironed too, of course! Overall, though, I think it turned out okay.

What do you think, dear readers?
