So, some people have relaxing weekends where they sit at hme, do the Sunday crossword, watch tv, maybe do a little laundry. Not me. I get to have the Roller Coaster Weekend of Ridiculousness.
Friday I get a phone call from my dad: "The apartment burned down. Your mom and I are okay, but one of the cats is dead, and another is missing. (they have four) There was an explosion in my room, and the whole thing went up in flames." I think I just sat there, stunned. I couldn't process it for a minute. Then, the phone calls began. The search for Abbey, the missing cat. Rushing McLennon to the emergency vet for smoke inhalation (he died early Sunday). Figuring out what was ruined, was was salvagable, where they would live, getting them clothes to wear that didn't smell like smoke . . . it was crazy. Friends kept asking what they could do to help, but I had to tell them I didn't know; I had never been in this situation before. I am grateful to everyone for the support and offers; we have some great friends.
Then, my shop had a pretty big weekend. I pretty much have one consignment deal (I go in on Tuesday to sign contracts, and then I'll post particulars), and hopefully by the end of the week I'll have another one (cross your fingers!). I spent the weekend making thirteen new pieces, and I'm not done yet; that was simply all I could get done. On Saturday morning, I also found out that I sold two pieces to someone who made me jump up and down a little bit: Kat von D, of LA Ink. I love her in general; she is a badass chick who is extremely talented and a real inspiration to any woman trying to run her own business, and I was psyched to see she liked my stuff. On Sunday night I sold another piece, bringing my total for the week up to five. Five!
I also drove mny car for the first time on Sunday; my dad just got a new PT Cruiser and is giving me his old car. It's red, has no A/C, rattles until you push it up to 30, and has a flood light indicator that stays on pretty much all the time, but it is soon to be my very own, and I am thrilled. It was a little unnerving driving it without plates or insurance, but thankfully I had no major mishaps. I should have it in my possession in a month or so.
So, that was my weekend. How was yours?

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry about the cats, but I'm glad your parents are ok. Scary! :-(
