They're here! Here's a quick preview of a few of the fantastic shots from the recent Seamstress of Avalon shoot at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park. I'll be putting the new pieces up in my shop over the next few days, but I didn't want to wait another second to publish a few pics . . .

Thank you so much to both my photographer, the awesome Shannon Skloss, and my fantabulous model, Nancy Upton. I will happily work with you ladies anytime!

Forgotten and Fabulous . . .

A short while back, I blogged about Nancy Upton and her sheer fantastic moxie, entering the ridiculous and insulting American Apparel plus-size model contest and using it as a platform for satire. After I blogged about her, we got into contact and about collaborating on a photoshoot someday; we have similar taste and style, and working with her for Seamstress of Avalon sounded like a whole lot of fun. I don't think either of us thought it would happen this quickly, though!

She contacted me a week ago to let me know that AA was flying her and her photographer out to LA for the weekend, and did I still want to do a shoot? Did I? I went into full prep mode, and on saturday headed into downtown LA to meet Nancy and Shannon, get Nancy into makeup, hair and costume, and we all trekked out to Griffith Park to wander around the Old Zoo.

Basically, the Old Zoo is this run-down, overgrown, abandoned zoo not far from the present-day Los Angeles Zoo; it was built in the '30's and abandoned in the '60's, and still stands. People shoot there all the time, and walking around, I can certainly see why: old rusted cages covered in grafitti and rather spooky-looking rocks sprawl over beautiful land that looks out over the city. We couldn't have found a more interesting location (though, we almost didn't find it at all!)

It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun; I can't wait to see the pictures Shannon took, and to post the new pieces in my store. I loved working with both these girls; they were an absolute joy. Stay tuned for pics!

Hubba, Hubba . . .

Yes, that's a Seamstress of Avalon piece that model is wearing!

A fantastic photographer recently contacted me, interested in using April in one of her shoots. Check out Jaime Marland's work; she is incredibly talented!

Thanks, Jaime!

Cleaning out the Costume Closet . . .

I'm doing a little spring cleaning and decided it's time to get rid of a few costumes I don't need anymore! My loss is your gain, as they say, so check out my eBay auctions:
Civil War Tea-Bodice Afternoon Gown
Late-Victorian Natural Form Gown

I really love these gowns, but they don't fit me anymore, and I'd love to see them go to new homes and get worn again! Contact me with any questions, and snap them up before they're gone!

New Items in my Etsy Shop!

There are finally new items in my Etsy Shop! Yay!!! It's been a pretty busy summer and autumn, as I'm sure you can all tell, so it's taken me a while to get anything new up. But, I hope it's been worth the wait! The emphasis in most of these new pieces is winter, and most of the pieces are definitely bridal.

Thank you to Hairspray Revolution for doing the lovely dewy makeup and gorgeous hair for this shoot! You ladies are amazing, and it's nice to finally meet you in person!

What do you think of the new pieces, dear readers?

Shabby Inspiration . . .

I definitely went through a period where I was very anti-shabby chic. I hated the lacey, frilly, artfully weather-beaten home dec style; it was frou frou in the worst way. But, I have slowly found my way back to the style and discovered elements of it that speak to me a great deal: the vintage flavors, the pale colors, the unpretentiousness. It's creeping its way into a lot of elements of my style now, especially in my shop.

I'm starting to get ready for a possible craft show later this year, which means I'll be setting up an honest-to-goodness shop display for the first time ever. I've got a mess of mannequin heads towards that end, but I can't just stick all my pieces on mannequins and be done with it; that's visually boring. Instead, I want to display my pieces on things like bleached manzanita branches, old suitcases, and on stacks of antique books. I don't want my display to be too busy, but I do want it to be interesting and eye-catching, and to match my shop's style. I put together a little inspiration board to that end, with some ideas I'm kicking around.

What do you think, dear readers? Any suggestions?

New Items in my Etsy Shop!

The Seamstress of Avalon had a very busy weekend (so busy I ended up getting sick!) I had my most ambitious photoshoot yet, with two themes: Goth Princess and Vintage Circus! it's amazing what you can do with some fabric, lights, and a fake trapeze;)

There were several new collections represented: The Steampunk Collection, The Goddess Collection, Wednesday's Child, and of course, more Bridal! Look for more items in the Steampunk Collection in the months to come; I only had time to finish two before this shoot!

The octopus and raven skull on these pieces are hand-sculpted by me, baked in the oven, and then painted. They're my favorite pieces, I think!

Yes, I had to model one of the pieces myself! I couldn't resist;)

Even Sebastian got in on the fun! He was so well-behaved too;)

I'm gearing up to apply to the Renegade Craft Show in a few weeks, so these pics are just the boost I need to get fired up, finish my lookbook, and get a stellar application out there. Wish me luck!

What do you think of the new pieces, dear readers?
